Productor / (Español) Conacado

Concado is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1989. Since its creation, its objective has been to improve the quality of life of its members. It invests in methods to improve cocoa cultivation, gives technical and financial assistance, and introduces the Dominican cocoa to domestic and international markets by using existing networks and with the collaboration of the quality guarantee of Cees. The confederation is made up of some 9,200 small farmers, organized in 126 groups that make up nine cooperatives. 90% of the farmers cultivate less than 3 hectares of land. The work with the Fair Trade network has generated microcredits totaling $200,000 annually, which has been invested in the cooperatives, contributing to improving job opportunities for groups of women.
Between 1998 and 2001 the international cocoa market experienced its lowest prices in history. Conacado survived by specializing in organic production and counting on the support of Fair Trade.
